MARKING SCHEME
The reliability of assessment depends upon the degree of consistency with which the examiner marks the answer script. It is for this reason CBSE is providing comprehensive Marking Schemes developed / finalised through discussions and active participation of educational experts and practising teachers from all regions. It is significant to know that:
Each paper setter furnishes the marking scheme pertaining to the paper set by him.
All the marking schemes are viewed and reviewed by a panel of moderators. These marking schemes are given to the expert groups consisting of professionals drawn from national specialised institutes, principals and practising teachers from NCERT, SCERT, drawn from all over the country representing different regions of CBSE.
Field testing of the marking scheme on a random sample of answer scripts. The Answerbooks are
individually evaluated by the participants and discussed before finalisation of the marking scheme, just after the examination of the individual subjects.
Printed marking schemes in major subjects in Class X and XII

PERFORMANCE ANALYSIS
In addition to serving the purpose of certification and classification, examinations are also considered to be powerful tools for improving the teaching process. The analysis of students’ responses to different questions asked in the examination can serve to diagnose the weakness in learning as well as shortcomings in curriculum transactions. It may reveal hard spots of learning and possible causative factors for errors being committed. Besides such an analysis helps in identifying areas of content to which much attention has not been devoted.
The Board has made sincere efforts to carry out different activities related to the Project for bringing out the publications on following subjects :
Performance Analysis English Course A Class X
Performance Analysis in Mathematics Class XII
Performance Analysis in Economics Class XII
Performance Analysis in Physics and Chemistry Class XII
STUDENT-FRIENDLY APPROACH

This in effect covered States of Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Pondicherry and centrally administered areas of Andaman and Nicobar Islands; and that of Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and centrally administered areas of Diu and Daman.
ORIENTATION PROGRAMMES FOR HEAD EXAMINERS
A number of programmes are being conducted for school Heads and prospective Head examiners of various subjects. The focus of programmes is on information sharing about curricular changes, management of examination related data and how to enhance public confidence in the system. The prospective head examiners are exposed to the sensitivities of evaluation , marking actual answer books, discussions on value points and on the job training in the art of evaluation processes and procedures essential for effective management of the Evaluation centre. Orientation programmes for the head examiners are organised in collaboration with National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), Delhi and Regional Institute of English (RIE), Chandigarh and other agencies.
PROMPT REDRESSAL OF GENUINE COMPLAINTS ABOUT QUESTION PAPERS
To attend the genuine complaints of affiliated institutions arising out of the administration of question papers, the Board adopted a two-pronged strategy. First, copies of Observation Schedules were supplied to all the institutions well in advance with contact addresses of subject experts of the regions to whom they could forward their comments on the question papers. Second, CBSE also convened the meeting of subjects experts on the day of examination, to obtain an overview of the question papers administered . Feedback received from two source was passed on to the group invited to develop marking schemes.

WORKING OF EVALUATION CENTERS MONITORED
Normally 8-10 markers are attached to a head examiner. The head examiner of a centre is expected to check 10% answer scripts of each examiner under his charge. To improve the quality of evaluation, an additional check in five subjects (Physics, Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics and Business Studies) were carried out by subjects experts who are involved in CBSE academic Programmes.
