Chandigarh January 27, 2016 Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh celebrated the Republic Day with patriotic fervour and enthusiasm at the University campus. PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arun K. Grover unfurled the national flag at the Parade Ground.
It was followed by the inspection of the Guard of Honour comprising the contingents of PU Security Staff, PU NCC boys & Girls cadets, Ankur School and Guru Gobind Singh Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Ratwara Sahib. While addressing the gathering, Prof Grover paid rich tributes to the freedom fighters. He congratulated PU alumnus Sh. Anupam Kher and PU alumna Prof Veena Tandon on being named for prestigious Padam Bhushan and Padam Shri honors respectively. He referred to various recent initiatives and achievements of the University.
Underlining the importance of the Day for the University, PU VC Prof. Grover said, “The transition from East Panjab University to Panjab University happened on the first Republic Day, January 26, 1950.” On this occasion, three PU employees namely Senior Programmer, Computer Unit, Mrs Daisy Puri; Senior Assistant, Centre for IAS & Other Competitive Examinations, Sh. Ramesh Kumar and Senior Assistant, Vice Chancellor Office, Sh. Dev Raj were felicitated with commendation certificate and memento in recognition of their distinguished services.
Colourful cultural program enthralled the audience. The students of PU Music Department presented patriotic songs. The students of Ankur School and G.G.S.V.M. Sr. Sec. School, Ratwara Sahib presented Group Dances on Unity in Diversity and Shahid Bhagat Singh respectively. The students of G.N.N. College, Doraha also gave cultural presentation.
