Y.S. RANA , Chandigarh–July 16—Prof Kaptan Singh Solanki, Governor, Punjab, Haryana and Administrator UT Chandigarh inaugurated government model high school in Sector 45 here on Thursday. Smt. Kirron Kher, Member of Parliament, Chandigarh, Mr Vijay Dev, Adviser to the Administrator, Chandigarh, Mr. Sarvjit Singh, Finance and Education Secretary, Mr. M.P. Singh, Principal Secretary to the Governor, Mr K.K Bhadoo, Director Public Instruction(s) and other senior officials of the administration were also present on the occasion.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Solanki congratulated the Administration for their consistent efforts towards uplifting the status of education in the city. He said that education was a vital element in shaping a kid’s personality and imbibing good values and tradition. When education was provided to a child in proper manner has the power to change the present and future. He also revealed that inauguration of school buildings were close to his heart and he never missed a chance to be present for the same. He said there was no better investment that the individuals, parents and nation can make than an investment in education of the highest possible quality. “Opening of a school not only open ups the path to knowledge for a child, but also opens up limitless opportunities for the people of that area,” he concluded.
Addressing the audience, Smt. Kirron Kher, MP, Chandigarh, said that it was a proud moment to see the administration taking such initiatives in the field of education. She further added that there was a need for a subject of social responsibility in the schools, which would help to enlighten the children on how to be a responsible citizen. She also stressed that the efforts of the administration on the development of sports center within the schools is highly appreciable.
The school building is constructed on an area of two acres at a cost of Rs7.19 crore. The four-storey building has 29 rooms with facilities of four labs and six special rooms. There is also provision of separate toilets for girls boys and disabled on every floor. To facilitate the movement of disabled students, the school has the provision of ramps. To cater to the rising needs of smart learning and its incorporation in education, the school will be equipped with a computer lab as well.
The school will cater to approximately 1200 students. If more students join, the department may have to run the school in double shift as all the schools in the surrounding already running in double shift, said the official of the education department.
The city has total 109 government schools, Of these, 107 schools are run in their own buildings. Six more schools buildings–Govt. High School, Sector-48D; Govt. High School, Sector-49C;
Govt. High School, Pocket No. – 1, Manimajra; Govt. High School, Pocket No. – 8, Manimajra
