November 18, 2015 : The Department of Applied Physics, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science & Technology, Hisar celebrates International Year of Light (IYL-2015) and organizes two days National Conference on ‘Photonics & Materials Science’. About 250 delegates from various parts of the country are participating in the conference. Prof. K.N. Pathak, Former Vice-Chancellor, Punjab University, Chandigarh graced the function as Chief Guest. Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar, Vice-Chancellor of the University presided over the function. Dr. Hari Babu Srivastava, Director, Laser Science Centre, New Delhi was the guest of honour in the inaugural session.
Prof. K.N.Pathak, Former Vice-Chancellor, Punjab University, Chandigarh the Chief Guest of the function delivered a talk on breakthrough technologies. The Photonic devices of 21st century are competing with electronics not only in tele-communication but the continuing products being launched. He explained that light divides the darkness. After the darkness sun shines brighter. Light based technologies can play a vital role in the development of all sectors of life.
Prof. Tankeshwar Kumar addressed the development of quantum dots and meta-devices and mention that soon our i-phones will be converted to diagnostic tools as well. The convener of the conference Prof. Devendra Mohan narrated this conference as thanks giving to the SUN and mentioned that the society is experiencing the newer technologies as the bulb of Edison is now replaced with CFL and LEDs. 21st century will be known for the invention of photonics and integrated divices. We cannot separate out material science and photonics.
Shri Hari Babu Srivastava detailed about the Laser Applications in Defense. He also tells about the research areas of laser technology related to the defence sector.
Prof. Devender Mohan, convener of the conference addressed that the focus is on Surface Plasmon Resonance Technique for Optical Sensors, Multi-functional Nano Structures and Nano-Materials, Light as a powerful tool to measure temperature and temperature profile of gaseous flame, precision Optics, X-ray cryptography, Organic Solar cells etc. This will be an endeavor to raise global awareness how light based technologies promote development to the society in the area of energy, education, health and medicine. This conference is an investment in wisdom. An abstract of conference was also released on the occasion. The Organizing Secretary Prof. Sujata Sanghi emphasized on International Year of Light being celebrated all over the world. There has been a cultural evening “LAPTON’’ which is a Greek word that means light. Prof.R.K.Gupta, Dean Faculty of Physical sciences and the Registrar Prof M.S. Turan attended the function.
