The Department of Psychology, Guru Gobind Singh College for Women, Sector 26, Chandigarh organised a photography competition on 7th October, 2021.The main objective of this competition was to discover the joy of photography and recognise its importance as an alternative therapy for improving mental health and well-being. Photography helps people overcome anxiety, daily tensions and depression. It also boosts self esteem, confidence, memory and decision making.
Detaching themselves from the daily worries, the participants enthusiastically showcased their creativity by clicking photographs on the themes of nature, emotions, and play with light.
Aatifa Masood of BA-I, Ritika Negi of BA-II and Nandita of BCom-II, Ananya of BA-I and Ekta Jain of BA-II won the first, second, third and consolation prize respectively.
The Principal, Dr Jatinder Kaur, congratulated the prize winners and appreciated the efforts of Dr Savneet Kaur, Head, Department of Psychology, in organising this event and for spreading awareness on the vital issue of mental health through the medium of photography.
