CHANDIGARH-August 3, 2013 : University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh will host a Summer Training School on the theme “Learning Methodologies in Pharmaceutical Chemistry: Medicinal and Analytical Aspects” from August 5.
The six day programme would continue till August 10, 2013 for mid-level faculty in Pharmaceutical Sciences under the initiative of UGC Networking programme and coordinatorship of Professor Ranju Bansal. UIPS is the first and the only Pharmacy Institute in the country selected by Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) for creating UGC Networking Resource Centre to promote research in the field of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Professor Lalit Kumar Bansal, Dean Research, Panjab University will be the Chief Guest on the occasion and Professor Somdatta Sinha, Professor (Biology), IISER, Mohali will deliver the Key Note Lecture. Professor Harkishan Singh, Professor Emeritus, will be the Guest of Honour and speak on the topic ‘Chandonium, A UIPS Discovery’. The school will commence on Monday, August 5 at 10.00 am in Golden Jubilee Seminar Hall of Panjab University Campus.
The course offers a range of high quality training resources on topics related to medicinal chemistry and pharmaceutical analysis. It will provide a platform for medicinal chemists to learn newer methodologies in the field of pharmaceutical chemistry to systematically oversee altering identified chemical agents such that after pharmaceutical formulation, they are safe and efficacious, and therefore suitable for use in the treatment of diseases. The participants will be apprised of the state of the art synthetic techniques like parallel synthesis and microwave mediated reactions involving green chemistry approaches. The workshop aims to present and to discuss main analytical challenges of the drug discovery process in both qualitative and quantitative aspects.
