Chandigarh : The budding engineers of University institute of Engineering and Technology (UIET), Panjab University organized a grand celebration today in their campus. This year’s GOONJ, the annual fest of UIET is special as UIET has completed a decade of its existence. UIET has come a long way since its inception had been ranked 31st in the list of engineering Institutes all over India.
GOONJ began with a rangoli making competition in which some 30 students participated and made beautiful designs with different hues and types of colours. The campus buzzed with some bizarre fun events. Students could be seen performing various antics and doing daring tasks in events like Dabangg. It was followed by the an event called Murder mystery which made some 100 students run about in the whole campus looking for clues that made them feel like Sherlock Holmes. Apart from the fun events there was a solo singing competitions called Andholika that saw students singing to the tune of guitars, drums, tablas and some other exotic musical instruments. The event has some 50 students from 15 different colleges coming to compete against each other. Along with these events what was also going on was a serious discussion on the kashmeer issue in ‘The Youth Congress’ and a debate on the topic whether or not Iran’s nuclear development should be interfered with by the international community.
After a busy day packed with a myriad of events the GOONJ attendees were treated with some enthralling from the student rockbands. This was followed by the most awaited event The Silk route- the fashion show. Finally the first day of the Grand GOONJ concluded with a live performance by Raeth, which came all the way from Pakistan to win the hearts of Indian students. The band left everyone in a great mood with their magical music.
The second day of GOONJ would have Kamal Heer performing live at the star night and some featured events like the street dance, street play and wall painting contests. Also, tomorrow there would be an Alumni meet in the Golden jubilee hall of Panjab University. It is the first time that the alumni of UIET would be coming together.
