CHANDIGARH: 23.3.2008: The Syndicate of the Panjab University at its meeting held here today.
1.Paid tribute to, Shahid Bhagat Singh, Shri Sukhdev and Shri Raj Guru, the great martyrs of the country, by observing two minutes silence, all standing
2.Felicitated –
(i) Professor. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University on his having been invited to join the Editorial Board of Molecular and Cellular
Bio-Chemistry an international journal for Chemical Biology in Health and Disease, Institute of Cardiovascular Sciences, University of Manitoba,
Canada. for a period of three years by Dr. Naranjan S. Dhalla,. Editor-in-Chief of the Board.
(ii) Dr. (Mrs.) Anupama Sharma, Reader, Department of Chemical Engineering & Technology on her having been awarded Indo-Swiss Bilateral Research Initiative (ISBRI) Fellowship at Switzerland.
(iii) Dr. G. Pathmanathan, Lecturer-cum-Curator, Department. of Anthropology for having worked as Co-Investigator and Co-ordinator with Dr.
Gaghavan Pathmanathan in his Austrialian Research Council’s Major Discovery Project entitled "The Contribution of South Asia to the peopling of Australasia".
3. Noted that with today’s tree Plantation in the third phase, more than 300 plants have been planted in the University and the process will go
on till 30th March 2008, so that as many as 1000 new plants are planted on the Campus.
4. Appreciated the kind gesture of Hon’ble Shri Pawan Kumar Bansal,Union Minister of State for Finance in sanctioning money for a shuttle bus
out of M.P.L.A.D. Fund to be provided for the students of the Campus with a view to make the Campus vehicle and pollution free.
5. Thanked-
(i) Shri Randeep S. SUljewala, Minister of Power (WSS) and Parliamentary Affairs, Government of Haryana for sanctioning a grant of Rs. one lac to the
Panjab University Campus Students Council for development of Cultural Activities out of the Discretionary Fund placed at his disposal.
(ii) Shri Randheep Singh Bhandal, an Alumni for having donated Rs.49,700 / – for the Welfare Fund of the University Students.
6. Approved the Annual Budget of the University with Revised Estimated Deficit at Rs.7649.28 lacs for 2007-2008, Budget Estimates for Rs.9571.54
lacs as also the New & Additional Demands amounting to Rs.37.48 lacs for 2008-2009. The members applauded the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor to make student-friendly budget wherein he has not hiked any tuition fee in the general category and taken may positive steps for the welfare of not only students but teaching and non-teaching staff and also to keep the environment of Campus pollution free.
7. On the recommendation of the Board of Finance, the Fellowship of the University Research Scholars/Fellows was enhanced from Rs.3600 / 4000 per
month fixed to Rs.5000 per month fixed for the first two years and Rs.6000 / – per month fixed for third year and also the Contingency raised to Rs. 7500 / – per annum (from Rs.5000 / – per annum) for social sciences/humanity departments and to Rs.10,000/- (from Rs.7500/- per annum) for Science Departments.
8.Approved that the candidates be given D.M.C. on the basis of best pass marks obtained by them during the course, i.e., marks of 1st Year, 2nd Year and 3rd Year including Subsidiary Subject, on their surrendering previous original detailed marks cards of B.Sc. (Hons. School) 1st, 2nd and 3rd Year.
9.Approved the execution of Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for academic cooperation in areas of mutual interest between University of Jean
Monnet (UJM), St. Etienne, France and Panjab University.
10.Approved that eligibility for Entrance Test for admission to M.Ed.course be changed from 50% to 55% in B.Ed. as per NCTE norms.
l1.Adopted the University Grants Commission letter No.F/1-4/1994 (SCTlOBe) dated 26 September 2007 regarding reservation for OBC in toto for
recruitments in the University. For affiliated Colleges, the respective Governments be written to.
