CHANDIGARH – March 31, 2008: The delegates from over twenty countries to the First World Punjabi Conference were in for a special treat at the cultural programme specially organized for the dignitaries on Sunday evening.
The programme was so well structured that not only it sustained the interest of audience till last but also kept them in wonderful humour. The inimitable compering by Dr. Surinder Sharma kept the audience in splits. Every item was interspersed with such earth humour that it will be rememberd for a long time.
Dr. S.M. Kant, Director, Youth Welfare was instrumental in selecting items which represented rich cultural forms which included Gidda, Malwai Gidda, Bhangra, Summy, Mirza, Tappae, Suhag, Ghori, Shabad, and Folk orchestra. The performers were from various colleges who had been highly acclaimed.
Mrs. Parneet Kaur, Member Paliament was the Chief Guest and Dr. (Mrs.) Vipin Sobti presided over the function. Amongst others who were present in the function include Prof. R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor; Dr. Mool Chand Sharma, Vice-Chairman, U.G.C.; Shri Gopal Krishan Chatrath, former Advocate General and Fellow and other Senators, and Shri Jagjit Singh Anand, Chief Editor, Nawa Zamana & former M.P. who lent grace to the colourful cultural evening.
