CHANDIGARH: 15 November 2011: The department of Sanskrit, Panjab University organized one-day National Seminar on “Life, Death and Action in Upnishads” at Golden Jublee Hall, P.U. Campus here today. Prof. Ram Gopal, former Professor Sanskrit, Panjab University and Ex Vice–Chancellor of M.D. University, Rohtak presided over and Prof. Ved Prakash Shashtri former pro-Vice-Chancellor of Gurukul Kangri University, Haridwar delivered the key-note address.
Professor Ved Prakash in his keynote address deliberated upon three phases of life e.g. pregnancy, birth and re-birth. Prof. Ram Gopal said that life is like a blowing river whose two banks are life and death. Prof. V.K. Alankar, Organizing Secretary and Chairperson of Sanskrit department stressed the importance of the subject of the seminar. Professor S.K. Sharma, Secretary to Vice-Chancellor said that Sanskrit is the base of India.
In the second session, two research papers were presented under the chairmanship of Prof. Subhash Vidyalankar (Jaipur University). First paper was presented by Dr. Rajinder Vidyalankar of Kurukshetra University, in which he emphasized on the mortality of soul and he prescribed that Upnishads have the totality of vision of life. In the 2nd paper, Dr. Ved Prakash, Hoshiarpur threw the light on the subject of death. The third session was chaired by Dr. Rajinder Vidyalankar of Kurukshetra University.
In this session, Dr. Vibha Aggarwal explained the importance of micro body in the process of birth, life and karma. Dr. Anil Kumar (Delhi) explained the myth of death. In the same session, Prof. Subhash Vidyalankar threw light on the concept of life, death and said that the main ambition of the life is to make living successfully.
Dr. V.K. Tiwari, Dean of Languages, Prof. V.K. Alankar, Prof. Shankarji Jha and Prof. Vikram Kumar also presented their views. Dr. Surinder Kumar, Dr. Sudhir Kumar, Dr. Lakhvir Singh, Dr. Shashi Kant, Dr. Vishundra Rehani, Dr. Shyam Sunder and other scholars participated in the discussion. Prof. Alankar announced that Sanskrit Department and Dayanand Chair will organize a seminar in near future.
