CHANDIGARH–May 30, 2008: With the end of Semester II Examinations of the first year students on May 26th 2008, the students studying the course of B.Sc in Fashion and Lifestyle Technology have gone in for two weeks summer training in the Apparel and Textile Industry in the region.
The goal of thistraining is to get an opportunity for hands on training in different departments of the industry ranging from design development, cutting,assembly line, quality check, and packaging.
Meanwhile the University is making efforts to tie up with the Apparel and Textile Manufacturing Businesses for Training & Placement of the students in
the coming years. Industrial training is a statutory requirement in the third year of B. Sc and the second year of M. Sc of this course.
Fashion & Lifestyle Industry is the largest and most important sector in terms of Financial Output, Product Output, Foreign Exchange Earnings,
Employment, Domestic Market, International Market and Out Sourcing. Due to the Changing market conditions of the Indian Fashion Industry and the
booming Indian Economy the demand for specialized technical skills in the area has increased manifold. Textile economy is estimated to grow by US$85 billion with a creation of 12 million new jobs in Textiles & Made-Ups Sector
by 2010. Besides, there is need for Quality of Education instead of Quantity of Institutions and the Panjab University strives to do just that.
As such this proactive step taken by the Panjab University, Chandigarh in starting the self-financing 5 Year Integrated B. Sc and M. Sc in Fashion and
Lifestyle Technology at its On-Campus University Institute of Fashion Technology (UIFT) is indeed a timely stride taken in the right direction
according to Dr. Sween, Co-ordinator of the Course.
