CHANDIGARH, SEPTEMBER 6, 2013 British Deputy High Commissioner, Mr David Lelliott today said that prosperous India is good for the United Kingdom (UK). Mr Lelliott was addressing the students of UK and Delhi University (DU) at Panjab University (PU) campus Auditorium here today. As many as 850 students were on six day trip to the Haryana and Punjab cities like Kurukshetra, Amritsar, Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Chandigarh.
Apart from DU students, about 120 students and faculty members from King’s College, London, University of Edinburgh, Scotland and other colleges of UK were part of this educational train journey from Delhi. While talking to media persons, Mr Lelliott appreciated the PU campus and said that it was his third visit to PU. He said that UK was looking up ‘at range of possible collaborations with the Universities’. “We want to see large number of British students coming to India and spending time here. Similarly we want Indian students to study in UK”, he added. Mr Lelliott said that British exports were very diverse as UK exports about 4913 products, which is highest number of coded products. He also gave presentation about various initiatives taken up by the Deputy High Commission office, Chandigarh, which caters to U.T Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand and Rajasthan. PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arun K. Grover said that PU and DU have a common heritage. He said that in October 1882, St. Stephens College New Delhi was affiliated to Panjab University, Lahore. He announced that cooperation of DU and PU would be celebrated at Hans Raj College, New Delhi in 2014. He said that PU is one of the oldest teaching Universities of the country. The Students visited various departments of PU Campus and admired the architecture and beautifulness of the Campus. They also presented various cultural programmes at the Auditorium.
