CHANDIGARH– June 17, 2008: A condolence meeting was held in the department of Sanskrit, P.U. today to morn the demise of Prof. Ram Murti Sharma formerly Professor and Head of this department. The teachers, students and staff-members of the department offered their condolence and stood ‘in silence for two minutes.
During the meeting his valuable service to the department was remembered. After being retired from the department he was appointed the Vice-Chancellor of Sampurnanand Sanskrit University. He also served as the Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi Kashi Vidyapith Varanasi for a short period. A winner of the certificate of Honour from the President of India, as well as, the prestigious Murti Devi Gyanpeeth Award, Prof.Sharma is known for his several monumental works and research papers and sound scholarship in the field of Advaita Vedanta. The U.G.C. has awarded him the Emeritus Fellowship. He is survived by his wife, three sons, one daughter and several grand children according to the Chairperson, Dept. of Sanskrit, P.U.
