CHANDIGARH: 11 November 2011: National Education Day was celebrated at the department of Political Science, P.U. Campus here today. Dr. Deepak K Singh, the Chairperson of the department welcomed the participants as well those present at the function.
He highlighted the important role played by Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad in the freedom struggle as well his contribution to the cause of education in India. On this occasion, the department organized a debate as well as an essay writing competition. The theme for the debate was quite fittingly, “The status of higher education in India today”. The topic for the essay competition was “Where is the wisdom we have lost in knowledge?” Students participated enthusiastically in both the activities.
The debate witnessed students taking interesting positions while defending or critiquing the current status of higher education in India. Mr. Neerat Pandey (M.A. III Semester) secured the first prize, while Ms. Gurjeet Kaur (M.A.III Semester) and Ms. Pavneet Kaur (M.Phil.) secured second and third prizes respectively. The results of the essay competition will be announced on Monday, the Chairperson of the department informed.
