CHANDIGARH-March 16, 2012: The two-day conference on ‘Sustainable Development: A Paradigm Shift from Principles to Rights’ being organized by University Institute of Legal Studies (UILS) concluded with a valedictory ceremony. The ceremony was presided over by Hon’ble Justice Rajive Bhalla, Judge Punjab and Haryana High Court. In his valedictory address Justice Bhalla Said, “…the issues relating to the environment are the most relevant, need-based and apt for discussion in today’s times. Platforms such as seminars and Conferences provide rich avenues of confluence and convergence of intellectuals such as academia and educationists.” Mr. G.K. Chatrath, Dean Law faculty also graced the occasion as the Guest of Honour.
In the morning of the second day of the conference, four technical sessions were held on the themes including Environment, Human Rights and Development; and Globalisation and Sustainable Development. The sessions of the second day were chaired by Dr. Jaimala, Dr. Chanchal Narang, Prof. Vijaylakshmi, Mr. Bharat, Dr. Deepti, Dr. Geeta Joshi, Dr. Sasha, Dr. Navneet Arora, Prof. Sangeeta Bhalla (Director UILS, PU), and Dr. Meenu Kaushik. Around 50 legal luminaries, academicians, educationists and students presented on the themes. Deliberations were made on interdisciplinary studies related to sustainable development and the Conference proved to be feast for the Scholars, Students and Researchers on Environment.
It was very encouraging for the organisers to come across such an overwhelming response as more than hundred papers were presented over a period of two days. Ms. Sabina Salim and Dr. Anupam Bahri were co-coordinators for the conference. Prof. Sangita Bhalla , Director of University Institute of Legal Studies lauded the efforts of the faculty and the student volunteers who worked untiringly for the success of the conference.
