A three days, International Conference on “Genes, Genetics & Genomics: Today & Tomorrow- Human Concerns” and & XXXVII Annual Conference of The Indian Society of Human Genetics started in the Main auditorium at Panjab University. This event will run through 3rd to 5th March 2012.
This event was inaugurated by Prof R. C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor, Panjab University, Chandigarh. Prof Sobti in his inaugural talk discussed about the journey of genetics and how the recent technological advances have revolutionized the field. According to him the time is not far when the research in genes and genomics would lead to development of individualized medicine based on individuals’ own genomic information.
The key note speaker Prof, Lyn Griffiths from Griffith University, Australia talked about the recent developments in the migraine. According to her females are more prone to this disease and require a multifaceted approach to tackle the disease.
Prof K. Thangaraj the president of the ISHG shared his views about the field of genomics and also about the growth of the society due to focused efforts and through mutual collaborations of Indian scientists in the field.
Dr. Annie Hasan secretary ISHG shared about the manner the society is encouraging the young researchers to take up field of human genetics as career.
Prof. RK Pathak, the organizing secretary welcomed all the participants. More than 300 hundred delegates from India and abroad are participating in the event which will conclude on 5th March 2012.
