The India Post, 9th December, 2008 : Environmentalist Professor Arun D Ahluwalia talked today forenoon at length on various pros and cons on global warming to over four dozen teachers from various parts of the country attending a refresher course in Environmental Sciences in the Botany Dept,PU today.
He dwelled at length on the natural dynamics of climate change and man pushing a natural phenomenon. He emphasized that even if the global warming is largely natural man has everything to gain from reducing fossil fuel consumption; not wasting paper/trees; walking or cycling to and within colleges. He appealed to all teachers in the refresher course to emulate the Botany Department in greening up their interiors and exteriors. According to him it is his dream that the whole Panjab University be as green as the Botany Department. He felt the huge amount wasted on heavy paper agendas in the university can be gainfully used to tastefully green the entire university and maintain the lawns and plant pots. He felt unhappiness that our various department had not done away with huge traditional bulbs not only wasting money but also accelerating global warming. He said he was unhappy that even Botany dept had failed to switch over the CFLBs &/or clean up the cob webs obstructing light from lamps and window panes. Teachers in attendance and Prof R K Kohli Chairman Botany & Co-ordinator EVS interacted with the speaker who left a DVD full of teaching and outreach material for the teachers.
