Panjab University (PU), Vice Chancellor Prof. Arun Kumar Grover today inaugurated the Wi-Fi service at Computer Centre, PU, Chandigarh. Wi-Fi Service facility will be free
and would be available for the students, researchers, faculty and staff members of the
PU Campus.
The services would be available in all academic areas of sector-14 and all Hostels
including Sector-25. UIET and UIAMS of Sector-25 would be provided Wi-Fi facility within
one month. The project has allocated budget of Rs. 3.63 Crore. For using this service
the users will have to get themselves registered. The form can be downloaded from
website campusstudent.puchd.ac.in.
The students will have to fill the form and get it attested from respective Chairperson
or director of their department. The Department will send these complete forms to
Computer Center and it will be registered and activated. On the Laptop/Computer Wi-Fi,
the students would connect to PU-Campus insert Wi-Fi key. Now, when connected, open the
web browser and request any page. Login Screen will appear, the students would have to
fill up their credentials like username and password. Upon successful login and Internet
will be working.
PU Vice Chancellor directed the Computer Centre to draft proposals for similar Wi-Fi
project for the students of PU Regional Centers in Punjab.
Director of Computer Centre Dr Tankeshwar Kumar said that the solution is based on
centralised controller with thin, adaptive AP deployment. As many as 1600 wireless users
are presently registered with the Wi-Fi system and this has the capacity to cater to
10,000 to 12,000 users.
Dean Students Welfare Prof. A.S Ahluwalia and number of other senior officers of the PU
were also present on the occasion.
