10 Dec : As a result Academic Council Meeting had decided that only outlines shall be sent in print & rest would be sent as CD or e mail or put on PU website. It was announced a committee was to sort out & streamline things.
Ignoring the Academic Council decision a 249 pages agenda of the Science Faculty; & during meeting annother bulky bundle of xeroxed pages totalling 607 pages was given as the current agenda.
Who read it in 20 minutes meeting GOD knows.
Even today the 1306 pages agenda distributed during summer vacations is still lying in various department offices as the meeting was in summer vacations and teachers were away.
Dean Science regretted this wastage of paper & virtual loss of trees and wastage of .
The paperless administration/communication and e administration may be far off, we could have had a CD plus a few pages of agenda & not all the syllabi & references which are impossible to read.
I fear total pages for sciences and other faculties may well be much more than 2000.
There is urgent need to put in practice our environmental professions & take IMMEDIATE EFFECTIVE steps to : 1. curb waste of paper; 2. waste of fossil fuels & 3. misuse of official cars; & encourage: 1. Walking or cycling; 2. Reduce traffic congestion; 3. Green
No one knows who were the committee members meant to curb waste of paper & how many times they met & what were their suggestions?
Close to Rs 10 lakh & it is more than sufficient to provide plants and pots to decorate exteriors and interiors of all the departments of the university over the whole year.
Besides it would go a long way in saving the Planet from Global Warming & unbearable environmental degradation.
PU’s inaction on such a crucial front blows in the face of all the Ecological Club activities we have been undertaking.
Do we really have a genuine passion for environment or we do all the ecological activity for a mere show off or else how come this gross wastage of paper went unnoticed ?
Xeroxing must have slowly poisoned in some closed doors of the university some helpless peon wit in PU or some worker at a shop if we outsourced the wasteful exercise.
