Dr Sonia Kapoor, Assistant Professor, University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Panjab University, Chandigarh, has recently been conferred with one of the most prestigious Young Scientist Award for the year 2015-16 by Indian Science Congress Association in the Section of New Biology (including Biochemistry, Biophysics, Molecular Biology and Biotechnology). The prestigious National award included a certificate of merit along with the cash prize of Rs. 25,000.
The award was bestowed on Dr Sonia for her research work entitled “identifying the causes for limited neurotoxicity of a chemotherapeutic molecule” presented during the 103rd Annual Meeting of Indian Science Congress Association, held at University of Mysore, Mysuru, during January 3-7, 2016.
Dr Sonia has completed her graduation in Biotechnology from UIET, Panjab University, and obtaining her Post-graduation and PhD from IIT, Kharagpur and IIT, Mumbai, respectively. Besides this award, she has 11 publications in international peer reviewed journals of high repute, 4 book chapters, and 1 book by international publisher as an Associate Editor and several other awards to her credit. Dr Sonia has also presented her research works previously at several international platforms as well.
