Chandigarh 29 March, 2015 : Panjab University (PU), Assistant Professor, Dr Madhu Khatri has been bestowed with Wellcome Trust/DBT India Alliance Early Career Fellowship with a project grant of Rs. 1.5 crores. Dr Madhu is teaching Biotechnology at University Institute of Engineering & Technology (UIET), PU.
This information was given by PU Vice Chancellor (VC), Prof Arun Kumar Grover while
addressing the PU Senate here today.
On need based, an additional amount could also be made available to Dr Madhu later. It
is perhaps for the first time that such a prestigious grant has been made available to a
faculty member from a traditional University in India, Prof Grover added.
Prof Grover informed that Associate Professor (Orthodontocs) of Dr H.S. Judge Institute
of Dental Sciences & Hospital, PU, Dr Arun Kumar Garg has been honoured with the
prestigious Fellowship of the International College of Dentists, USA in recognition of
his services rendered in the Art and Science of Dentistry.
The Enactus Team of 112 students of Dr SS Bhatnagar University Institute of Chemical
Engineering & Technology (Dr SSB UICET), under the leadership of Prof Seema Kapoor, has
bagged first prize of Walmart Women Empowerment Grant of Rs. 1.2 lacs, Second prize of
Mahindra Rise Special Competition Grant of Rs. 1.15 lacs, Uniliver Grant of Rs. 20,000,
Tata Chemicals Competition of Rs. 40,000 and KPMG Business Ethics Grant of Rs. 50,000
during the year 2014-15.
PU VC also informed that the Enactus team with coordination with Punjab Energy
Development Agency (PEDA) has started a new project ‘Bio-Indhan’. Under the project,
first biogas plant has been constructed at Kasauli Village, Block Kharan, District SAS
Nagar, Punjab.
PU VC also informed about the organisation of first DST INSPIRE Camp from March 23 to
27, 2015.
