Chandigarh April 26, 2015 : Panjab University (PU) Senate today thanked the PU Chancellor and Vice President of India Sh. M. Hamid Ansari for giving extension of three years to the Prof Arun Kumar Grover as the PU Vice Chancellor.
As soon as the Senate meeting started, the PU Fellows including Sh. G.K. Chatrath and Dr. Dalip Kumar congratulated the PU VC Prof Grover and thanked the Chancellor for the extension. They appreciated the growth of the University and impetus to the research & education under Prof. Grover leadership. Other PU Fellows also welcomed the extension,by thumping of the desks.
PU Senate also paid homage to the earthquake victims of Nepal and India in the recent
earthquake. Two minutes silence was observed as a mark of respect.
PU Senate approved the fee hike of five percent subject to a minimum increase of Rs.
500 per annum and maximum increase of Rs. 1,200 per annum for all courses of University teaching departments and its regional centres for the session 2015-16.
In a major decision likely to further boost international collaborations, PU Senate
approved the proposal for the appointment of international co-supervisors for the Ph.D.
candidates of the University, provided the co-supervisors should be from International
Research Centre/Universities (DST approved Institution).
Giving a major relief to the students belonging to economically weaker sections, the PU
Senate decided that students having annual income upto Rs. 2.5 lac would be eligible for
admission to all self-financing courses under economically weaker section category.
Earlier, this limit was only Rs. 1 lac per annum and now these students would be
eligible for freeship and tuition fee concessions.
PU Senate gave its In-Principal approval to implement Choice Based Credit System (CBCS)and adopt Credit Framework for Skill Development (CFSD) at the Departments of the University. The Senate decided to implement CBCS and adopt CFSD in some departments from this year i.e. 2015-16 as pilot project. Semesterization of curricula, restructuring of syllabi in the form of modules, standardization of examinations and switching over from marking system to grading system would be considered in this regard.
PU Senate also approved the proposal regarding appointment of Dr. Parminder Singh as the Director Physical Education & Sports. The Senate also approved various promotion and appointments.
PU Senate also approved the regulations & rules for post graduate diploma in Cyber
Crime, M.Phil in Clinical Psychology and M.Phil in Psychiatric Social Work. It also
approved the increase in number of exclusive seats for serving officers of armed forces
from five to eleven for M.Phil at Department of Defence & National Security Studies.
PU Senate also approved the recommendations to introduce ‘Study Abroad Semester’ for
the international/NRI students willing to study at the PU Campus. The semester fee would
be half of the normal annual fee of the category to which they belong to.
PU Senate granted permanent affiliation to National Institute of Technical Teachers
Training and Research (NITTTR), Sector 26, Chandigarh w.e.f session 2013-14.
PU Senate approved the increase a number of seats in the Department of Chinese and
Tibetan Languages. The seats in Diploma in Chinese have been increased from 16 to 30
seats and in Advance Diploma in Chinese from 11 to 25 seats.
