Chandigarh : Dr Bhupinder Singh Bhoop, Professor & Chairperson, University Institute of Pharmaceutical Sciences (UIPS), Panjab University, Chandigarh, has recently been bestowed with “Scientist Par Excellence Award” by M/s Minitab Inc., UK,. The award has been conferred on him principally for his unparalleled contribution in the last three decades esp. in the domain of developing novel and nanoscaled drug delivery systems employing systematic Quality by Design (QbD) and advanced pharmacokinetic modeling. This coveted award was presented on 15th April 2015 by a team of representatives from Minitab including Dr Donna Watson, Ms Habibah Jamil (both from, Minitab Inc., UK), and Mr Madhu Madhavan (MD & CEO, M/s Cubic Computing, India). Prof Bhoop is currently the Coordinator of UGC Centre of Excellence in Nano Applications (Biomedical Sciences) too.
Subsequently, the team attended a three-day International Conference on “Quality by Design (QbD)” organized by Select Biosciences at Shivalik View, Chandigarh, wherein Prof Bhoop was the Conference Chair. Prof Bhoop delivered the inaugural talk on “Quality by Design (QbD) and its Omnipresence in Pharma Product Development Lifecycle”. Nearly 140 delegates from academia and industry, and 20 speakers from India, USA, UK, France, Switzerland and Singapore participated in the Conference.
Considered to be a front-runner of QbD of drug products, Prof Bhoop has earned till date more than 240 publications, 33 book chapters, 9 books, 4 patents, nearly 235 Conference presentations including 23 Best Paper Awards and key involvement in the tech. transfer of two nano-based drug delivery products for serving the ailing patients. He has duly trained several hundreds of industrial scientists under his guidance, esp. on QbD via conferences, onsite training seminars & workshops. This award is a sequel to numerous National & Global awards & accolades already conferred on him.
QbD is buzz word in pharma industry. It is a new science and risk-based systematic approach of developing pharmaceutical formulations providing thorough understanding of the product(s) and process(es) to avoid any quality crisis at the end. As per the recent US-Food Drug Administration (FDA) guidance, every generic drug product in the US market has to be compliant to QbD requirements.
Minitab is a scientific statistics package, one of the most popular and sought-after among the scientists and companies worldwide, has been developed at the Pennsylvania State University, USA in 1972, and is available across the globe in 8 languages like, English, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Chinese and Spanish.
