December 10, Chandigarh : The Centre for Human Rights and Duties, University Institute of Emerging Areas in Social Sciences, Panjab University, Chandigarh celebrated Human Rights Eve yesterday at Student Centre, to commemorate and celebrate International Human Rights Day, which falls on December 10. Professor S. K. Sharma, Secretary to the Vice Chancellor inaugurated the event by releasing balloons to spread the message of human rights. He also unfolded A Charter of Duties, drafted by the Centre for Human Rights and Duties for better enjoyment of human rights.
The Charter carried the appeal issued to all for joining hands in the performance of duties so that humanity at large can enjoy human rights. On this occasion, a street play “Khule AAm Share Aam” was performed on the generation of awareness against HIV AIDS by the community theatre group of G.S. Channi. The show was well attended and despite the onset of the exams students’ response was encouraging. The faculty members from the UIFT, USOL, Centre for Police Administration and Centre for Social Work and DSW (Women) Prof. Kalpana Mahajan accompanied by Dr. Ekta were also present at the event. The workers and children from construction site within the University were also invited. It was a good change for the non-teaching staff of the Centre who thoroughly enjoyed the show.
