CHANDIGARH–January 31, 2012: The Syndicate of the Panjab University at its meeting held here today took the following key decisions:- In the case regarding the re-evaluation of six candidates of B.Sc. Radio Diagnosis referred by the Director-Principal, Govt. Medical College & Hospital, Sector 32, the House resolved that the College constitute an Appellate Committee to which the cases of the two failed students be referred. The detailed recommendations of the Committee along with detailed past results would then be taken up by the Syndicate.
The House authorized the Vice-Chancellor and Controller of Examinations to take a decision, to the maximum advantage of the students, regarding the time period allowed to the students to scrutinize their evaluated answer scripts The House constituted a Committee to look into the problems being faced by the Colleges regarding various Add-on Courses.
A Committee was also formed to look into the issue of granting affiliation to short duration Certificate Courses, imposing a ceiling on seats, imposing of fine, etc. in affiliated Colleges. The House approved, in principle, the proposed Science City to be set up on Campus but will consider the detailed proposal in the next meeting. MoUs with the following Universities/Institutes were approved: National Bureau of Animal Genetic Resources, Karnal; Bureau of Police Research and Development, MHA, New Delhi. The House accepted the recommendation of the Committee constituted to look into the API Proforma for Librarians and Physical Education staff that the UGC CAS Proforma should be adopted in toto. The House also approved the introduction of on- line application forms for various Entrance Tests to be conducted during the year 2012.
The meeting of the newly constituted Syndicate began with a welcome statement by the Vice-Chancellor. Two minutes silence was observed, all standing, to condole the sad demise of Shri Raj Kumar Sharma, father of Professor Gurdip Sharma, Fellow; Shri S.P. Arora, former FDO of the University; Dr. Shashi Kala, former Fellow; Smt. Raj Rani Vij, mother of Dr. S.P. Vij, Professor Emeritus; Shri Kartar Singh Duggal, an eminent Punjabi writer and Shri Harbilas Rai Bansal, brother of Sh. Pawan Kumar Bansal, Hon’ble Union Minister and Fellow of the University.
The House felicitated Dr. Anupama Kaushik Nee Sharma of UICET, on bagging UGC Research Award; Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Fellow, on his having been nominated to the Governing Body of Haryana Sahitya Academy; the Department of Biochemistry, on getting support under DST-FIST of Rs.85 lakhs; Dr. M.L. Sharma, Professor (Retired) of the Department of Botany, on his having been nominated as part-time member of BOD of NABARD; Shri Partap Chander Acharya, SRF, UIPS, on bagging the best scientific paper award at the 63rd Indian Pharmaceutical Congress held at Bengaluru; Professor A.K. Aggarwal of the Centre for Advanced Study in Mathematics, on being conferred Emeritus Scientistship of CSIR; Professor S.K. Sharma, Professor Emeritus, Energy Research Centre, on having been awarded H.L. Roy Memorial Oration Award by the Indian Institute of Chemical Engineers; Dr. R.P.S. Josh, Fellow, on his having been conferred the Dr. Baba Sahib Ambedkar Sahitya Ratan Award; Shri Neeraj Kumar Singh, Assistant Librarian, on his having been selected for the Commonwealth Professional Fellowship at the University of East London, London; and Professor R.C. Sobti, Vice-Chancellor on his election as President, Indian Science Congress Association for the year 2013-14. The House approved the award of Ph.D. degrees to thirteen Research Scholars.
