CAREER ADVANCEMENT SCHEME (CAS) PROMOTIONS
The screening process has already started. The Vice-Chancellor has assured PUTA that all those CAS promotions where interview is not required will be cleared soon.
The interviews for other CAS promotions will also be held shortly.
Further we would like to share with our colleagues that PUTA is working simultaneously for promotions at various levels and for re-designation of some of our colleagues.
NEW RECRUITMENTS: We are happy that screening work of some of the departments has already been completed and for others is in process. The Vice-Chancellor has given us assurance that the interview process for some departments will begin shortly. The screening for the remaining posts has also started. We assure our colleagues that a good number of posts will be filled by the beginning of new academic session.ENHANCEMENT OF RETIREMENT AGE: PUTA reiterate its stand for enhancement of age of superannuation. PUTA also requests the Vice-Chancellor to continue his best efforts for this cause.
IMPROVEMENT OF EDUCATION: PUTA requested the Vice-Chancellor to enhance the funds under the category “IMOROVEMENT OF EDUCATION”. For attending conferences from Rs.10,000/- to Rs15,000/-, for purchase of books from Rs.2000/- to Rs.3000/- and Secretarial Assistance from Rs.400/- to Rs.500/-, so that teachers can attend more number of conferences/seminars/symposia/workshops in a year, as it is required under the new UGC regulations for further promotion. The Vice-Chancellor has assured us that the same will be taken care of shortly (from the next session). WE ALSO IMPRESSED UPON PU AUTHORTIES THAT FACULTY MEMBERS BE ALLOWED TO ATTEND ANY NUMBER OF CONFERENCES/SEMINARS/WORKSHOPS IN A YEAR TILL THE TIME THEY HAVE EXHAUSTED THE ANNUALLY SANCTIONED FINANCIAL GARNT IN THEIR RESPECTIVE BUDGET HEADS.
FACULTY GRIEVANCE CELL: Acceding to our request, the Vice-Chancellor has constituted a Faculty Grievance Cell for hearing the grievances of the faculty. Dean University Instructions is the Chairperson of this nine member committee, which among others would include PUTA President or his/her Nominee and the Chairperson of the concerned department as a Special Invitee.
RE-EMPLOYMENT: PUTA executive in its meeting unanimously resolved that re-employment should be given to each faculty member. PUTA has made every effort so that all teachers who apply for it must get re-employment. For this PUTA executive met the Vice-Chancellor along with some retired teachers. The Vice-Chancellor not only gave assurance but also acted immediately in this regard and has placed the matter in the Syndicate. We welcome the decision through which teachers will be able to get re-employment. We appreciate the efforts made by the Vice-Chancellor in this regard.
M. Tech. INCREMENTS: It is a long pending and genuine demand of our colleagues holding M. Tech. degree. We have given a representation to the Vice-Chancellor in this regard and we have also met the Vice-Chancellor personally many times to stress that this is a valid demand as per the new UGC guidelines. The Vice- Chancellor has assured us that the case will be considered sympathetically.
CONSTRUCTION OF NEW HOUSES: Keeping in view the increasing number of departments on the PU campus, a request was made to the Vice-Chancellor to look into the matter seriously and allocate sufficient funds for the construction of new residential houses for the faculty. We appreciate the efforts of the Vice-Chancellor for allocating funds (Rs.15 crores) in the new budget for the construction of new houses for the faculty. We would like to inform our colleagues that the work of toilet renovation/ rewiring of the electric wires and re-laying of the roofs of houses is in progress.
SPECIAL PACKAGE FOR SOUTH CAMPUS: PUTA executive requested the Vice-Chancellor to sanction special funds for the maintenance, repair and construction of a MODERN CHILDREN PARK and ROSE GARDEN in South Campus, Sector-25. The Vice-Chancellor informed PUTA that an amount of Rs.25 lac has already been kept for the said purpose in the new budget.
DENTAL COLLEGE PARKING: We have met the Vice-Chancellor and other officers of the PU, to discuss the allocation of funds and space for parking at the Dental College. You will be happy to know that authorities have assured us that proper and sufficient funds for Dental College parking have been allocated. One parking will be ready by the end of May 2011 and second at the end of the year.
SPECIAL LECTURE ON CAREER ADVANCEMENT SCHEME
A special lecture was organised by the Panjab University Teachers Association on 16/03/2011 in the seminar hall of Chemistry Department, Panjab University, Chandigarh, to deliberate on new UGC guidelines related to Career Advancement Scheme (CAS) of Teachers. Dr. Karamjit Singh, Associate Professor, University Business School addressed the faculty members on different aspects of CAS. He explained various phases of CAS promotions like date of eligibility, API score, type of publications required and other parameters. He also discussed promotions at various levels including promotions for Senior Professorship. The lecture proved fruitful as many teachers discussed these issues at length.
FREE HEART CHECK-UP CAMP: A “Free Heart Check-up Camp” was jointly organized by the Panjab University Teachers’ Association and Panjab University Non-teaching Staff Association on 4th December, 2010 from 10.00 – 2.00 p.m. at Panjab University Health Centre. Gianvati O. P. Jain Memorial Trust, Chandigarh also contributed their efforts in the organisation of this event. Around 500 people visited the camp and consulted the senior doctors for their respective health problems. PUTA will organise more such camps in future to facilitate our teachers, non-teaching staff members and their dependents, students and research scholars.
GENERAL BODY MEETING
Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) General Body Meeting was held on 23/02/2011 at 11.00 A. M. in the Chemistry Auditorium. PUTA President Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kaang read the report, in which she informed the house about the various goals achieved so far, work in process and future plans of PUTA. It was unanimously resolved by the house that Dr. Manoj Kumar be brought back to his parent department (University Business School) from the Department of Evening Studies at the earliest. In this connection, a copy of the resolution has been submitted to the Vice-Chancellor for information and further action. The issues of Dental College and UBS were also discussed by the members. Further, PUTA welcomed the decision of the Syndicate to reinstate Dr. Manoj Kumar to University Business School.
PFUCTO ACTIVITIES
On the call of PFUCTO a “Dharna” was organised by Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) on 10/03/2011 from 11.00 am to 1.00 pm near Herbal Garden, Panjab University, Chandigarh in support of the various demands of the Universities and college teachers. PUTA also participated in a rally on 18th March, 2011 at 11.00am in S.D. College, Sector-32, Chandigarh arranged by PFUCTO.
