Chandigarh(October 12, 2012): Profs.J R Prasher, P.S.Gill and Kuldeep Singh, President, Co-President and General Secretary, respectively, of Panjab & Chandigarh College Teachers’ Union (PCCTU) today, welcomed the court order regarding Pension for teachers of Non-Govt. Colleges of Punjab. They also lauded the role of Prof S S Hundal, former President PCCTU, Principal R S Pawan, Principal N S Tuli , in taking the issue to its present stage. The case of Pension for teachers of Non-Govt Colleges of Punjab has been hanging in the high court for a long time and came up for hearing on Oct 10, 2012 before the Double bench of Hon’able Chief Justice A K Sikri and Justice Rakesh Kumar Jain, who showed concern with the issue of enforcement the pension scheme formulated in 1996. The respondents ( Govt of Punjab) have been given a last opportunity to deliberate on the issue (of Pension) and to inform the court on the next date of hearing (26.11.2012) about the implementation of 1996 scheme.
The court also ordered that officials taking the decisions be well advised of the consequences of the undertakings given by them in the court and the contempt committed earlier. For this reason, the court ordered the personal presence of Secretaries of Education and Finance Department on 26.11.2012, next date of hearing, in case, positive decision is not taken by the date.
The union leadership has appealed to S. Parkash Singh Badal, CM, Punjab to implement the scheme brought under enactment in 1999 by his previous government and provide social security to the only category left, the teachers of aided schools of Punjab are already getting pension.
