Chandigarh : Nobel Laureate Prof. Venkatraman Ramakrishnan, FRS, an Indian born structural biologist and physicist addressed the gathering of more than 1000 science students & teachers from Punjab & adjoining states while delivering INST-PSCST Har Gobind Khorana Lecture at Panjab University today. Prof. Ramakrishnan, President Royal Society is currently working at MRC Laboratory of Molecular Biology at Cambridge. In his talk titled ‘Nobody’s world: Evidence and Modern Science’, he exhorted that science is fact based and to enable the students to comprehend with ease, he explained it through several interesting examples. He emphasized on the need for inculcation of scientific temper for development of science based society. Thereafter, the students & scientific fraternity interacted with the Nobel Laureate.
The lecture was organized by Punjab State Council for Science & Technology in collaboration with Institute of Nano Science & Technology and Panjab University as a part of Har Gobind Khorana (HGK) Lecture Series instituted in the area of biosciences as a tribute to Professor Har Gobind Khorana, the Nobel Laureate of Punjab origin. The objective of the series is to provide a unique opportunity to students and teachers from Punjab for interacting with and learning from real life experiences of internationally renowned scientists of Indian origin. Prof. Ramakrishnan’s lecture was also streamed live through National Knowledge Network. Further, Har Gobind Khorana’s work & achievements were exhibited to invigorate the young minds.
