Chandigarh March 15 : National workshop on ‘X-ray powder diffraction, dynamic light scattering, scanning- and transmission electron microscopies (NXDST-2016)’ started today at the Department of CIL/SAIF/UCIM, Panjab University (PU), Chandigarh. The NXDST-2016 is being jointly organized by the Department of CIL/SAIF/UCIM and Department of Chemistry, PU to impart sufficient knowledge on the advanced instruments to sensitize and stimulate the young minds of research scholars and faculties.
Director INST, Mohali Prof. Ashok Kumar Ganguli delivered the keynote address and discussed about the XRD, light scattering and electron microscopy. PU Vice Chancellor, Prof. Arun Kumar Grover inaugurated the workshop. Addressing the inaugural function, Prof. Arun Kumar Grover emphasized on understanding the basics of these analytical instruments is mandatory for better research activities. PU Director of the Research Promotion Cell Prof. OP Katare spoke about the importance of sophisticated instruments.
He said that several things goes beyond the human knowledge, thus understanding on basics of instruments are important to bring the changes to the society. Earlier, Director CIL/SAIF/UCIM Prof. S. K. Mehta welcomed the participants. He assured that this gathering is geared up to provide an excellent platform for all the scientists to exchange their professional skills in this domain of sophisticated instrumentations. Later Dr Sugam Kumar from BARC delivered a talk on “Basics of Dynamic Light Scattering: Theory and Instrumentation” He discussed applications and Data analysis of results for the Instrument. He also stressed upon the need to use modern tools such as artificial intelligence in different areas of research.
As many as 35 participants mainly researchers and scientists of various academic institutes and industries are participating in the workshop. Renowned scientists and the eminent researchers from IISc Bangalore, various IITs and industries would preside over the sessions and deliver their expert talks from 16 to 21 March 2016.
