The Ginger club of the Foods and Nutrition Department is celebrating the National Nutrition Week in the college from September 01-07, 2012. Several activities are being carried out throughout the week. As a part of the ongoing Nutrition Week, the Ginger Club held a cookery competition. The theme of the cookery competition was to bring recipes made from either fresh corn or yellow pumpkin, to create awareness related to healthy eating practices in consonance with the current theme of the National Nutrition Week- ‘Food Security- key to healthy lifestyle’.
There was enthusiastic participation from the students with a wide display of nutritious and colourful spectrum of recipes includingItalian corn pasta salad, chupa rustam lollipop, corn remix, corn carrot muffin, insa lata di roso, pumpkin pie, yellow pumpkin burfi, tofu pumkin rollto name a few.
Mrs. Madhu Nanda Principal, Government Home Science College, Mrs. Jatinder Sohi and Dr. Reetinder Brar adjudged the innovative healthy recipes made by the participants.
In lieu of celebrating the Nutrition Week, Ms Shweta from Nestle, held a demonstration wherein panner makhani, vanilla and chocolate cake and dahi salad were taught using nestle products.
An educational talk on yog health and diet was given by Acharya Prem Bhatia- Founder President of Vishva Bharati Yaga Sansthan. He explained the interrelation between yog, health and nutrition. He also emphasized that we should not just speak about healthy lifestyle, but should practice it too.
The Principal, Mrs. Madhu Nanda congratulated the Department for putting up a brilliant show.
