The Three Day RGNUL National Moot Court Competition commenced today with the Inauguration. The worthy Vice-Chancellor, Professor (Dr) Paramjit S. Jaswal inaugurated the competition and said that:
Professor (Dr.) Paramjit S. Jaswal said that RGNUL has grown over the years, the students have been winning laurels across the country. He also stated that Mooting competitions provide training, confidence and thrill of competition. It also teaches how to work as a team, research and facilitates discipline and significantly the art of arguing. He advised students to work with honesty in the competition.The skills required for mooting enable students to be fine lawyers.
Professor (Dr.) G.I.S. Sandhu, Registrar was the Guest of Honour in his address he said that:
it was need of the hour to organize University’s Moot Court Competition, After organizing LawAsia Moot Court, Bar Council Moot Court and Commonwealth Moot Court. Learning from Mooting goes beyond class room teaching – in addition to theoretical knowledge mooting experience contribute significantly. Application of law to practical scenarios is imperative to teaching of law
The first day of the competition saw the draw of lots and Researcher Test where 22 Researcher were competing for Rs. 5000/- and trophy. The results will be declared on March 18, 2012 at the Valedictory. The University has introduced the running trophy for the events. Trophies will also be given for Best Memorial, Best Researcher, Best Speaker and Best Team. RGNUL believes such competitions ensure much needed practical exposure to the court room environment, it facilitates in desk study and most importantly it is the confidence building measures. The moot proposition based on Criminal Law has generated much enthusiasm among the law graduates across the country. Criminal Law is a riveting field which requires tremendous cognitive skills, reasoning and logic. 22 teams from the across the country are participating and competing for Rs. 20,000/- cash prizes.
