Chandigarh : A two day National Conference entitled “Bridging the Gap-Biodiversity and Human Health” was inaugurated by Former Director General (ICMR) Prof. N.K. Ganguly, Prof. R. C. Mahajan and Prof. Arun K. Grover at the Department of Zoology, Panjab University, Chandigarh on March 21st, 2018. Prof. Chitra Mandal (Distinguished Biotechnology Research Professor & J. C. Bose national Fellow, CSIR-IICB, Kolkata) in her key note address shared her research findings on role of sialic acid and its association with childhood acute lymphoblastic leukemia. As a part of the conference, Prof. G. P. Sharma Oration Award was presented to Prof. Ravi Prakash (Emeritus Scientist, Department of Genetics, MDU, Rohtak). During this two day event various technical sessions were carried out wherein eminent scientists delivered informative talks.
The conference was concluded by chief guest Prof. R. K. Manchanda (DG, CCRH, New Delhi) and Guest of Honor Prof. R.C. Sobti (VC, BBAU, Lucknow). In his valedictory address Dr. Manchanda emphasized on the importance of homeopathy as an alternative medicine. He stated that the roots of homeopathy are based on biodiversity, which is the principal source of homeopathic tinctures, formulations and medicines.
A total of 176 delegates participated and 74 presented their research work in the form of e-posters, oral presentations and poster presentations.
