By Anuj Bhalla,Mohali, 16 March : Shemrock Sernior Scondry School organised a Puppet Show & fancy dress competition of junior wing students on last working day of the session. The motives of this show were both educational as well as entertaining. The whole junior wing was decorated with colourful balloons.The function was presided over by the Mr. J.S.Bajwa, Chairman of school.
While children prepared their own doll puppets of various kinds e.g. sock puppet, stick puppet, hand puppet, which were given as takeaways. Puppets from Rajasthan were displayed in a fun-filled drama based on Rajasthani folklore. This show conveyed importance of education in an interesting way to the students. Horse puppet walking, trotting and galloping proved an attraction for children and enjoyed the most.The “sapera” puppet show with the snake puppet was entertaining, sometimes the snake dancing and sometimes coming to bite. The children were fascinated by the “sapera”puppet show.
While speaking on this occassion Principal Air Commodore SK Sharma said that most of the puppet shows have lost their charm due to the influence of cinema, television and video. But still puppetry is a popular media amongst children, educators and communicators. “We should realise the importance of saving this ancient art of folklore by keeping all beneficial facts. The government should take initiatives to open puppetry theatres and puppet shows can be organised in the schools on regular basis so that our children can know their culture and traditions.” he further added.
A fancy dress competition was also arranged at this occasion. The students presented a wonderful show by adorning themselves in various characters, Besides the traditional – all-time favourite ideas of fancy dress like fairies, Jhansi ki Rani, Soldier, Phoolwali, Policeman etc.
It was indeed a delightful competition, which was enjoyed by both participants and the audience. Mr. J.S.Bajwa congratulated the participants for the wonderful show put up by them. All the participants presented their characters with great zeal and all the students enjoyed very much. At the end of the programme they had a blast with a dance party and party meals were served to the children
