Chandigarh : Department of History, MCM DAV College for Women organized an Inter-College Debate competition on ‘British Rule – A Boon or Bane for the Indian Economy’. Professor Anju Suri of Department of History, Panjab University was the Chief Guest on the occasion.
The event witnessed enthusiastic participation with teams from 8 city colleges exhibiting their debating prowess. Peppered with quotes like “Life is a mystery, if you don’t take lessons from history”, the participants vociferously spoke for and against the motion.
Kriti sharma (MCM), Gagandeep Singh (GCC-42) won the 1st prize while the 2nd and 3rd prize went to Neha (GCG -11) and Devendra (GCM -11), respectively.
In another event, the Department of Philosophy of the college organized an interactive session on ‘Philosophy and literature’ with Sh. Satya P Gautam, Professor and Chairperson, Centre for Philosophy, School of Social Sciences, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi. Sh. Gautam discussed with the students the various aspects of Philosophy in relation to literature, religion, society etc.
The students enthusiastically participated in this session and showcased a commendable understanding of the subject during the interaction. Sh. Gautam was all praises for their zeal.
