Dr Jayanti Dutta, Presidential candidate for Panjab University Teachers Association (PUTA) highlighted the different facets of her election campaign, team, manifesto and other issues on 17/8/2019
About our team
Our team is a diverse group of faculty members belonging to the entire spectrum of backgrounds, disciplines, political ideologies, age, designations, experiences. Each one of us is doing some kind of activism in their own capacity. We are people with clear intentions and no baggage of hostility, vendetta or hidden agenda.
Why our team wants to be in PUTA
PUTA is a well respected platform for activism for the faculty causes. It gives validation to our actions, a bigger impact and can reach several stakeholders in one go. Getting this platform will help us take our pro-teacher thoughts and ideas into implementable actions.
On being called a Pro-VC team
Our team is a pro-teacher team. For making our University a better workplace with ease of teaching/ research and establishment we will fully cooperate with all the stake holders be it the Vice chancellor, the senate, political representatives, civil society. However, if intentional hindrances are created to thwart faculty welfare, we will have no hesitation to bring the full force of our community to fight the barriers. We have that conviction, capability and courage which comes from our deep connection with community
How will our PUTA be different from the earlier ones
Accessible and availability to address issues of teachers
Not taking the community for granted
More involvement of community in all decisions/ actions of PUTA
Emphasis on use of technology towards transparent / fast governance through Information Technology
Evidence based decisions
What will be the issues on priority for our PUTA
- Implementation of seventh pay commission- A rightful due which has been delayed. The community wants this to be taken on an urgent basis
- Central status for the University- Already spearheaded by our seniors, the issues will be taken forward by strategizing on all fronts
- Academic/Administrative reforms – Rationalisation of teaching to improve the quality of teaching and research. Removable of bottlenecks for smooth functioning. We will take this issue urgently
