Amritsar, February 28 : Dr. Jagbir Singh, a distinguished scholar from Delhi while delivering Sardarni Balbir Kaur Brar Memorial Lecture at the Guru Nanak Dev University here today threw light on the Indian Knowledge Tradition and Medieval Punjabi Literature and said that the Indian Civilisation was part of the oldest civilizations of the world.
This lecture was arranged by the School of Punjabi Studies of the University. Prof. Jaspal Kaur Kang, Professor of Sikh Studies at Panjab University, Chandigarh, who was the chief guest on this occasion emphasized to inherit good values.
Dr. Jagbir Singh further going through the classic works of literature described the Rigveda as a great knowledge tradition which contributed much to build the psyche of the Punjabis. Ethical values are also an integrated part of Indian tradition, he said.
Earlier, Dr. Sukhdev Singh Khahra, Head of the School of Punjabi Studies welcomed the key speaker and the guests. Prof. Harbhajan Singh Bhatia from the school conducted the stage.
Besides, Dr. Gurmeet Singh, Dr. Balwant Singh, Dr. Kawajit Jassal, Dr. Sohinder Singh, Dr. Harchand Singh Bedi, Dr. Raminder Kaur, Dr. Harjit Kaur and Dr. Darya, research scholars and students of the School of Punjabi Studies were also present on this occasion.
