Amritsar, March 30 : The Guru Nanak Dev University would start semester system in the Under-Graduate Courses from this Academic Session 2012-13. The syllabus according to semester system has been approved in the Academic Council Meeting which met here today in the Senate Hall of the University.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor A.S. Brar presided over while Dr. Inderjit Singh, Registrar presented agenda in the meeting. Apart from Dr. Rajinderjit Kaur Pawar, Dean Academic Affairs, Dean of various faculties, Head of various Departments and Principals of the affiliated colleges were also present on this occasion.
The Academic Council also approved the Equivalence Committee constituted for the purpose to check the Equivalence of the degrees of those students who did their degrees from other Universities and desired to seek admission in the Guru Nanak Dev University. The Council also granted all rights to the Vice-Chancellor to take decisions at the anticipatory approval of Academic Council.
While addressing the meeting, Vice-Chancellor said that as today we are living in the era of globalization, so it should be mandatory for teaching fraternity to recommend the students to consult the books which are written by the authors of National and International repute. He said that strict action will be taken against those teachers who will not perform their duties at evaluation centres to evaluate the answer books. Vice-Chancellor said that 75 percent attendance would mandatory for every student.
The Council also approved the recommendations of Equivalence Committee to consider the recognition of Master of Physiotherapy – Ortho Degree and M.Sc. Bio-technology passed from Lovely Professional University, Phagwara as equivalent to Master of Physiotherapy and M.Sc. Biotechnology Degree of this University.
The Committee also considers the recognition of B.Sc. (Hotel and Catering Management) passed under distance education from Vinayaka Mission University, Salem as eligibility for admission to PGDCA of this University.
Similarly, the Academic Council also approved the recommendations of Equivalence Committee to consider the recognition of M.Sc. Fashion Technology, M.Tech. Information Technology and B.Sc. Biotechnology degrees passed under distance education from Punjab Technical University Jalandhar as equivalent to M.Sc. Fashion Designing and Merchandising, M.Tech. Information Technology and B.Sc. Biotechnology degrees of this University.
The Committee also considered the recognition of B.Ed. (Two Years) degree passed under distance education mode from Jamia Millia Islamia University, Delhi as equivalent to B.Ed. Regular University of this University.
Similarly many committees have been approved and decisions relating to problems of academics were taken in the meeting.
