Amritsar, December 26 : University Grants Commission has recently accorded the University with Potential for Excellence status to Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar keeping in view its contribution and future vision to promote excellence in teaching, research and innovation. The first step to attain this goal is recruitment of faculty which can provide leadership qualities in research and teaching. The University has endeavoured to recruit faculty which has excelled in research and has published papers in high impact renowned Journals.
In a statement to the Syndicate it is mentioned that Gagandeep Kaur Gahlay from the University of Wyoming, USA has been appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. She is a University Merit holder from the Delhi University and has done her Post doctoral Fellowship from National Institute of Health, USA and is presently working as Research Scientist in the University of Wyoming. She has to her credit 7 international publications out of which one is in ‘Science’ one of the world’s top journals.
Dr. Sanjana Mehrotra has been considered for Assistant Professorship of Genetics. A graduate from Banaras Hindu University, she has worked in Department of Genetics and Health, Telethon Institute for Child Health Research, Perth, Australia and she has to her credit 6 international publications, the most important publication being ‘Nature Genetics’. Dr. Anup Kumar Kesavan from the School of Medicine, Johns Hopkins University, Baltimore, USA has been appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. He has 13 publications to his credit.
Dr. Prabpreet Singh, Post doctoral Fellow from Friedrich Alexander University Erlangen Nurnberg, Germany with 12 international publications has been considered for Assistant Professor for the Department of Chemistry. Previously, Dr. Singh has earlier worked as Post Doctoral Fellow in the University of Strasboroug, France. He has been Alexander von Humboldt Fellow in Germany. Dr. Harpreet Kaur Mangat who is Fulbright-Nehru Postdoctoral Fellow and was working in the Institute for the Study of Societal Issues, University of California, Berkley has been appointed as Assistant Professor in the Department of Political Science. Most of her work is on Sikh Diaspora on which she has published 10 papers. Dr. Tejwant Singh Kang JSPS Postdoctral Fellow in the Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry, Kyushu University Japan who has 28 publications out of which 25 International publications to his credit has been appointed Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemistry, Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar.
The appointment of faculty who has worked in renowned international institutes and have the culture of publishing in renowned journals will certainly put Guru Nanak Dev University on trajectory of Excellence in Research and Academic in the years to come and would have far reaching consequences by having a multiplier effect.
