Amritsar, February 10 : A “3-Day advanced workshop on Research Methodology and Statistics for Ph.D Scholars, Assistant Professors and Associate Professors is being organized here today in the Academic Staff College of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 92 research scholars and teachers from various Colleges and Universities are participating.
Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A.S. Brar inaugurated the workshop. Prof. R.M. Pandey, Head from Department of Biostatistics, All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), New Delhi and the Coordinator of the Workshop briefed the participants about the thrust area of this Workshop. Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Director, Academic Staff College welcomed the chief guest and others. Dr. Mohan Kumar proposed vote of thanks on this occasion. Prof. Nalin Mehta from AIIMS was also present.
Prof. A.S. Brar in his inaugural address exhorted the teachers and young research scholars to dedicate themselves in the pursuit of excellent research in their respective disciplines. He also expressed his concern over the declining quality of research in all the disciplines in India to match the international standards.
He said that most of our Universities have simply come to be known as post-graduate degree colleges, which is not a healthy trend for the growth of higher education in any country. “Publish or Perish” must be the motto not only for the faculty members, but also for the research scholars, he added. He exhorted budding researchers to work with utmost dedication, devotion, discipline, sincerity, honesty in order to fully realize the potential hidden within them. He said that the researcher should make optimum use of highly costly scientific equipment in the Universities, he lamented.
He said that the Guru Nanak Dev University is perhaps the sole University in the entire Country, which is offering scholarships to all the Ph.D students including even those have not qualified the UGC (NET), he added.
