Amritsar, November 2 : The construction work of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Bhawan to be constructed at the Guru Nanak Dev University Campus with the cost of 12.50 crores has been inaugurated here today by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. A. S. Brar.
This building would be constructed with the funds provided by University Grants Commission, New Delhi.
Prof. Rajinder Kaur Pawar, Dean, Academic Affairs, dr. Inderjit Singh, Registrar, Prof Balwant Singh Dhillon, Director, Centre for Sri Guru Granth Sahib Studies, Prof. Sashi Bala, Head, Guru Nanak Studies Department, Dr. T.S. Banipal, Director, ASC, Dr. Sharanjit Singh Dhillon, Prof. Incharge (Finance and Development), Shri Mukesh Sharma, Executive Engineer, Dr. Karamjit Singh Chahal, Architect Department, Prof. Gurbachan Singh Bachan and many students were present on this occasion.
Prof. Brar said that the aim of the building is to carry out the research on Sri Guru Granth Sahib. He said that the building which has been designed by the Architect Department of the University would comprise of Scholars Room, Sangeet Hall, Conference Hall, Library, Auditorium and Museum. He said that the structure of this building would be three storied with four Domes on the corners and one bigger & magnificent Dome in the centre.
He said that the covered area of the building is 70,000 Sq.ft. and the estimated cost of the building would be Rs. 12.50 crore. He said that the concept of the building is to promote the ideals of Sikhism and design of building is also based on Sikh Architecture. The building shall cater all needs of Research work, he added.
