Amritsar, August 2 : A 28-Day General Orientation Course-92 was inaugurated in the Academic Staff College of the Guru Nanak Dev University. As many as 15 teachers from various parts of the Country are participating in this Course.
Prof. M.K. Surappa, Director, Indian Institute of Technology, Ropar inaugurated the course. Prof. Jaspal Singh Sandhu, Director, Academic Staff College welcomed and introduced the chief guest and briefed the participants about the thrust area of the course. Dr. Mohan Kumar proposed the vote of thanks.
While speaking on this occasion, Prof. Surappa said that the aims & objectives of the Academic Staff Colleges are to enhance the teaching skills of the teachers in the university system. He said that the advancement in the field of Information technology has brought about a revolution in the field of education.
Talking about the pros & cons of the Online teaching, Prof Surappa pointed out that the regular class room teaching needs to be supplemented with the online teaching in order to make optimum use of it. He lamented that the number of suitable teachers & researchers is declining despite the availability of glut of educational institutes.
He advised the participants to motivate the students to desist from the evils like cut – paste method, plagiarism, stealing etc in the field of education. He also exhorted the teachers to plug the connection between classroom education & the real world.
Prof. Jaspal said that the Academic Staff College had always endeavored to provide the best possible facilities to the participants in terms of logistics as well as academics.
