Hisar : Speakathon club under the mentorship of Training and Placement Cell, Guru Jambheshwar University of Science and Technology, Hisar organised the eighth edition of ‘Azadi Amritmahotsav Series’ in form of “Online Elocution Event” to commemorate the 75 years of India’s independence. This week’s freedom fighters were “Bhagwati Charan Vohra” and “Dada Bhai Naroji”. About 20 students of the University and its affiliated colleges participated in this event.
Students spoke very enthusiastically and confidently about the life, struggles and sacrifices of “Bhagwati Charan Vohra” and “Dada Bhai Naroji”. They said that Bhagwati Charan Vohra was an Indian revolutionary, associated with Hindustan Socialist Republican Association. He was an ideologue, organiser, orator and a campaigner. Vohra was an avid reader. He played a key role in infusing intellectual ideology in the functioning roots of the organizations he worked with. He was not influenced by caste prejudices and worked for Hindu-Muslim unity as well as the upliftment of the poor by use of socialist principles. Vohra was a gifted orator, effective writer and a voracious reader. Along with Bhagat Singh and others, he established a very successful youth organization in Punjab known as the Naujawan Bharat Sabha and became its propaganda secretary.
Also, about Dada Bhai Naroji, they said that he also known as the “Grand Old Man of India” and “Unofficial Ambassador of India” was an Indian political leader, merchant, scholar and writer who was a Liberal Party Member of Parliament in the United Kingdom House of Commons. His book Poverty and Un-British Rule in India brought attention to his theory of the Indian “wealth drain” into Britain. Dadabhai Naoroji’s work focused on the drain of wealth from India to Britain during the period of British rule in India in which Naoroji argued that India was too highly taxed and that its wealth was being drained away to England.
Dr. Kapil Kumar, Chairperson, Department of Mathematics said that the best way to give tribute to the freedom fighters is remembering their struggles and sacrifices which they made for India’s independence and learn something from their actions, honesty and bravery.
