The Law School, University of Jammu organized Inter-University Debate in collaboration with Justice Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust.
The event was divided into three sessions-Inaugural session, Debating Session and Valedictory Session
Inaugural session
The inaugural session commenced at 10.30am in the morning with the lighting of the Inaugural Lamp followed by the welcome address by Prof. Kulwant Singh Director The Law School, wherein he formally welcomed the dignitaries and expressed a deep sense of gratitude for the Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust for its material and moral support .
The inaugural address was presented by the Chief Guest of the occasion Prof. R.D. Sharma, Dean Academic Affairs, University of Jammu. He in his address congratulated all the students participating in the competetion for keeping the spirit of competition alive.

The inaugural session was conducted by Dr. Monica Narang, Assistant Professor the law school and concluded with formal vote of thanks by Ms. Seema Sharma, Assistant Professor, The Law School.
The inaugural session was followed by the main session of the day that is the debating Session.
Debating Session
The topic for the dabate was “ “Role and Utility Of Lokpal In Ensuring Probity In Public Life In Contemporary Socio-Political Environment” Law students representing their respective universities across the North India participated in this competition. The key participanting teams were from Department of Law, Kurushetra, Aligarh Muslim University, Uttar Pradesh; Jamia Milia University, Delhi . Besides this, the students from local legal institutions namely Dogra Law College, Jammu Law College, K.C.Law College and Deptt of Law Jammu University of Jammu, The Law School, jammu University also participated in this competition..The performance of the students was evaluated by a panel of experts constituting the jury. The worthy members of the jury for the debate were, Prof. Deepshikha Kotwal from Deptt of English, Advocate Seema Shekhar And Mr. Pradeep Dutta, Bureau Chief Times Now.
The proceedings of the debating session were conducted by Ms. Rajneesh Khajuria.The session ended with formal vote of thanks by Dr. Deepti Gupta and with a hope to carry this event more vigourously in the years to come.
Valedictory Session
Welcome addresss by Prof.Kulwant singh, Director The Law School
Hon’ble Mr. Justice G.D. Sharma, former judge of Jammu and Kashmir High court was the Chief Guest for the Valedictory Session. He in his address highlighted relevance of Lokpal in the present socio-political milieu, stressing upon the need for transparency and accountability in the system
Presidential Address by Prof. Varun sahni.He in his address focused on the fundamental purpose of such debating contests. He said that the debating contests like this inculcate the skill to present the coherent bunch of arguments in a convincing manner and this is fundamental ability required to be nurtured by the future lawyers.
Mrs. Aparna kuthiala Trustee, Bodh Raj Sawhny Memorial Trust was the special guest of honour in the session who gave an overview of the Bodh Raj sawhny Memorial Trust and also made the worthy audience acquainted with the aims and objectives of the trust., The formal Vote of Thanks was presented by Dr. Monica Narang Assistant Professor The Law School in the valedictory session and the proceedings of the valedictory function were conducted by Dr. Mrinalini Atrey, Assistan Professor The Law School.
