Chandigarh organized a two-day “Environment-Quiz 2011-12” Competition for Hindi and English Medium Schools in Chandigarh on January 22 and 23, 2012. Professor R.K. Kohli, Department of Botany, Panjab University, Chandigarh was a Quiz Master, on behalf of Department of Environment, U.T. Chandigarh.
This competition was organized to foster the Environment awareness in School Children’s, different teams from different schools participated in the competitions. In a neck-to-neck competing rounds three teams (Hindi Medium) were selected as Govt. High Secondary School , Chandigarh, 1st Position; Govt. High School, Mauli Colony, Chandigarh, 2nd Position; and Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Maloya, Chandigarh, 3rd Position. All the teams received cash prizes from invited guest, Shri PJS Dadhwal, Director, Department of Environment, U.T. Chandigarh.
On the second day of the competition, English medium schools were competing for this competition. The three teams selected after vigorous competing rounds on different issues related to Environmental issues. The winning teams were Carmel Convent Senior Secondary School, Sector-9, Chandigarh, 1st Position; Govt. Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 35-D, Chandigarh, 2nd Position; and Sishu Niketan Model Senior Secondary School, Sector 22-D, Chandigarh got 3rd Position.
All the winning teams were received cash prizes of Rs.6000/-, Rs.4500/- and Rs.3000/- respectively from Shri Santosh Kumar, Director Forests, Chandigarh. On this occasion, Shri Saurav Kumar and Shri Kuldeep Kumar from Forest Department were also present. All the participated teams received certificates from the guests.
