Chandigarh, March 6, 2012: ‘Eco-friendly Tilak Holi’ function was celebrated in Gurukul Global School, Near IT Park, Manimajra, Chandigarh on 6th March, 2012 by Department of Environment & Forests, Chandigarh Administration in collaboration with Department of Education & Gurukul Global School, Manimajra. The Advisor to the Administrator, UT, Chandigarh, Sh. K.K.Sharma, IAS, was the Chief Guest on the occasion. The basic idea of this function was to spread the message of using eco friendly colours which have no toxic effect on the skin as well as to celebrate dry Holi/ Tilak Holi so as to save millions of gallons of water which is wasted during Holi celebration.
Mr. Sharma exhorted all students to carry forward this message of dry and Tilak Holi by using herbal colors to their homes as well as to neighborhood so that it becomes a mass movement to save water. Sh. D.K.Tiwari, IAS, Secretary (Environment & Forests), UT, Chandigarh appreciated the efforts made by Eco-Club members in promoting eco-friendly Holi celebration. Sh.Santosh Kumar, IFS, Director, Environment requested all the school Principals/Teachers to distribute eco-friendly Herbal colors to kids which was made available by Sohanjana Eco Club so as to promote eco-friendly Tilak Holi celebration by school students at grass root level .He called upon all to take pledge to save precious water during forthcoming Holi Festival.
Some of the highlights of the 45 minutes function was setting up of stalls by all cluster Schools, Free distribution of Herbal Colours by Sohanjana & Orchid Eco Clubs, Preparation of special Traditional Holi Foods, Skit and Dance by school kids to promote the environmental concept. Earlier, Ms Aruna Bhardwaj in her welcome address informed everybody that ‘Orchid’ club of Gurukul Global School has taken this initiative to promote & popularize this concept of Dry & Herbal Holi so that it becomes a mass movement. The function was attended by Principals/ Eco Club Incharges of 21 Clusters of UT Chandigarh and other eco club teachers so as to promote eco –friendly Herbal Holi at their schools.
