Patiala : Department of Zoology, Punjabi University, Patiala organized one day workshop and Plantation activity on 14-11-2014 under National Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) Programme which is being executed by Punjab State Council for Science and Technology (PSCST), Chandigarh in Punjab. The inaugural address was delivered by Hon’ble Vice Chancellor Dr. Jaspal Singh. He emphasized the importance of Biodiversity and environment. He stressed on the need to take various conservation measures regarding the biodiversity. He motivated the students to protect environment by enthusiastically participating in plantation activities. Later on, Dr. Jaspal Singh planted the first sapling under the plantation drive.
Prof. Arun D. Ahluwalia, Professor, Deptt. of Geology, Panjab University, Chandigarh delivered keynote address entitled “Glimpse of life through ages on our dear mother earth”. He highlighted various issues of Environmental Degradation which are responsible for the loss of flora and fauna. The species which are abundantly present these days will show declining trends if proper conservation measures are not taken. Dr. M.I.S. Saggoo, Additional Dean Research, Punjabi University, Patiala presented his presidential address and motivated the students about various issues of the environment. Prof. (Dr.) Jagbir Singh, Head, Deptt. of Zoology and Coordinator of this workshop welcomed the Guests and reiterated the need to take various steps for biodiversity conservation. Dr. Onkar Singh Brraich, Assistant Professor was Organising Secretary and explained about the NEAC programme in Punjab. About 170 participants took part in this workshop including Faculty members, Research Scholars and Students.
