Dr IT Group organized a seminar on “Drug abuse; Stop Drinking and Smoking” in Banur campus on 27 Feb. 2013, to guide students about these social curses. It is a second Lecture in this series.
Dr. Gurminder Pal Singh, Associate Professor of Psychiatry department, Gian Sagar Medical College, Banur, Patiala, was invited to address the students about drug abuse. He said that most drugs that are abused can influence a person’s behaviour. Alcohol, inhalants, and sedatives produce drunkenness, poor muscle coordination etc. People usually take drugs to have fun or escape the pressures of life. Drug users among students are particularly worrying.
He showed some facts that how “Drug” has overpowered our young generation. He said that “drug addiction is a complex brain disease. It is characterized by compulsive, at times uncontrollable, drug craving, seeking, and use that persist even in the face of extremely negative consequences. Drug seeking becomes compulsive, in large part as a result of the effects of prolonged drug use on brain functioning and, thus, on behaviour. For many people, drug addiction becomes chronic, with relapses possible even after long periods of abstinence. The Definition confirm us how serious the consequences of using Drugs”. This is an extremely serious issue for us. He appreciated efforts of Dr IT Group for organizing such social awareness seminar in campus.
Prof. P. P. Arya, Managing Director of Dr IT Group said that Thousands of young people have wasted their lives because of drugs in our country, India. They were mostly victims of a ‘cruel’ environment, a broken-home family, of ignorance, etc. Because of drugs our youth is not capable to achieve their goals of life. It’s a threat that could kill an entire generation. One generation of this nation will be lost if we do not take action together and immediately. In short, we must be ready to go to war against drugs and the war must start from home.
All students took active participation in this seminar by asking different queries and agreeing that now it’s time for everyone to say ‘NO’ to drugs. It’s time for every individual to arrange his/her future.
