Desh Bhagat University organised a cluster based workshop “Against Social Evils” in collaboration with Youth Services District Fatehgarh Sahib and Punjab State Aids Control Society Chandigarh. The workshop was conducted in University seminar hall and was first of its kind in the district. Different colleges from the district took part in this programme which was based on awareness generation on HIV/AIDS, Anti Drugs and Blood donation. Dr. Zora Singh, Chancellor, Desh Bhagat University inaugurated the workshop by lighting the ceremonial lamp. He professed that this workshop will be beneficial for the youth. Dr. Mann, Assistant Director, District Fatehgarh Sahib informed that Red Ribbon clubs are formed in different colleges of the district and competitions will be held to spread awareness among the students in this regard by time to time. Speaking on the occasion Dr. Shalini Gupta, Pro Vice-Chancellor said that this workshop will guide the youth as to how to keep away from social evils.
Dr. Sukhwinder Singh (Blood bank, Rajindra Hospital, Patiala) educated youth about the importance of blood donation, functioning of blood banks and health parameters required in the blood donors. Mr. Hem Rishi from Saket Hospital Patiala delivered the lecture on HIV/AIDS and included in his talk as how to keep safe from this dangerous disease. Prof. Manjit Singh from Punjabi University spoke to the students against drug abuse and its effects and said “Let’s kill drugs before drugs kill youth, society and the nation”. The overall motive of this cluster based workshop was to develop peer educators, who will spread awareness against social evils among peoples especially among youths. The students who won the competitions during this event were awarded with certificates.
Besides faculty and large number of students the Registrar, Desh Bhagat University, Dr. Virinder Singh,Controller Examination Dr. I.S. Sethi, Director University School of Engineering Dr. J.K. Saini, Director Innovation and Planning Mr. Chetan Gupta were also present on the occasion.
