As the City Beautiful woke up to the auspicious day of Gurpurab, Desh Bhagat Group
of Institutes and Satguru Foundation launched its community radio initiative, DESH
BHAGAT RADIO :a community radio that is for the community, by the community and
of the community.
The channel’s launch is being done in a phased manner. The frequency 90.4 FM was
inaugurated by Punjab Education Minister Sikander Singh Maluka on 02.11-2012.
Today, the station was launched with the message of brotherhood for the community on
the auspicious occasion of Gurpurab. The next phase scheduled for the coming week
will see the programming of the station being launched. The programming will include
shows dedicated to women power, city happenings and topics of social awareness.
On Wednesday, the city woke up to peaceful verses from the Gurbani and messages
from the Satguru Foundation chairman and some of the local schoolchildren who took
the pledge to fight social evils.
The channel can be tuned in 6am onwards at 90.4 FM and its activities will also be
available on social networking site Facebook.
Defining the objective of the community radio station, Dr Zora Singh, chancellor of Desh
Bhagat University & Chairman Desh Bhagat Group, said: “The objective of Desh Bhagat
Radio is to broadcast programmes for the welfare of the community living within the
transmission range (10-15 km radius) for whom the radio station is established. Most of
the programs will be produced by the members of the community themselves.”

the Community, of the Community and for the Community. We are going to serve the
society through the medium of this CRS, by broadcasting programmes on education,
health, drug abuse and use of intoxicants, and social evils like dowry, child labour, and
creating awareness about environmental pollution,
