By Anuj Bhalla,Chandigarh, March 15: A group of city writers have established the Chandigarh Literary Society (CLS) to encourage reading and study of literature.The poet author and bureaucrat, Sumita Misra, who chairs the Literary Society informed that this forum will bring together budding and established writers in the region and facilitate presentation and publication of papers, books, articles and other works.
The founder members of CLS includes Hindi writer Madhav Kaushik as secretary, Prof Manju Jaidka, Prof Pratibha Nagpal, Prof Meera Malik, Vivek Atray, Prof Harpreet Pruthi, Saguna Jain, Bela Sahgal and Jyoti Kamal.Sumita Misra said that CLS shall organize meetings, seminars, conferences, workshops and symposia of local, regional, national and international level.CLS shall serve as a network of creative minds to encourage literary and creative writing in this region by bringing together writers, publishers, academia, intellectuals, students, and scholars, she added.Our focus will be to connect with the youth of the tricity and already we have over 100 subscribers on CLS facebook page, she informed.
Sumita Misra unveiled the CLS logo which is a stylized tree with pencil as its stem and branches and leaves with leaves-like hands in different hues. The logo, she explained, represents the evolution of creativity and interaction of writer with different streams of society and people that blossoms into beautiful flowers or leaves stylized with colorful hands epitomizing the spirit of the city’s open hand, “open to give, open to receive”.
CLS kickstarted its journey with its first ‘Meet the Author’ programme featuring versatile Bollywood actor and author Anupam Kher, who shared the journey of his debut book, “The Best Thing About You is You”, which talks about variety of self-management techniques, anger syndrome, thought control, conquering stress, and getting rid of fears.Mr. K.K. Sharma, Advisor to the Administrator of Union Territory, Chandigarh was the guest of honor.Sumita Misra appealed to the creative minds of the tricity to join CLS.
